  1. Kagi Shareware

  3. Shareware registrations for SimpleTime are handled by Kagi Shareware. Kagi is a small company run by Kee Nethery
  4. that processes shareware registrations for several dozen authors. Kagi is NOT a software publisher, and they do
  5. not provide technical support for SimpleTime or any of the other programs they handle. For technical support,
  6. contact the authors of the individual programs.

  9. The ﾒRegisterﾓ Applcation
  10.  
  11. Your copy of SimpleTime should come with a small application called ﾒRegisterﾓ, which you use to create a
  12. customized registration form to send to Kagi Shareware. If you do not have the ﾒRegisterﾓ application, you
  13. should download a fresh copy of the whole SimpleTime package. The ﾒRegisterﾓ application is also available on
  14. its own from my web site <http://www.idir.net/~catara>. It is vital that you use the registration form since
  15. payments sent without the appropriate form can be delayed or lost.

  17. When you launch the ﾒRegisterﾓ application, it puts up a window asking for all the necessary information. Type
  18. your name, postal address, and e-mail address in the corresponding boxes at the top of the window. So that we
  19. can contact you, you must provide either a postal or e-mail address (please note that we do not reply by FAX).
  20. If you do not have an e-mail address, you must check the ﾒPostcard Receiptﾓ box (which automatically adds $1 to
  21. your charge) at the bottom right of the window. Otherwise, you will not receive any reply to your registration.
  22. Then, fill in the payment details at the bottom left of the window. Choose your method of payment from the popup
  23. and complete the relevant information (credit card number, type of currency, etc.) below.

  25. Next, indicate the programs you want to register in the middle of the window. Type the number of copies you want
  26. to register into the ﾒSingle Userﾓ box. In most cases you should just type ﾒ1ﾓ. Do not type the shareware fee
  27. into this box since the ﾒRegisterﾓ application computes the fee for you. The ﾒSiteﾓ and ﾒWorld-Wideﾓ check boxes
  28. are intended for companies or organizations that want a license to use the shareware on all their machines. If
  29. you feel that the shareware program is worth more than the registration fee, you can add an optional bonus in
  30. the ﾒBonus US$ﾓ box. Please note that the ﾒRegisterﾓ application may list more than three programs, and you can
  31. use the scroll bar at the right of the window to see the others.

  33. Once you have filled in all this required information, the ﾒRegisterﾓ application displays the total amount at
  34. the bottom right of the window. You then need to create a registration form by clicking one of the following
  35. three buttons:

  37. ･    Print... prints a hard copy of the registration form, which you can then mail to Kagi Shareware.

  39. ･    Copy...    puts a copy of the registration form on your clipboard for you to paste into an e-mail message
  40. to send to Kagi Shareware. This method works only with credit cards since it is not yet possible to e-mail cash
  41. or checks.

  43. ･    Save...    saves a copy of the registration for to your hard disk as a SimpleText document for you to print
  44. out or e-mail later.

  46. The Kagi Shareware e-mail and snail-mail addresses are given on the registration form.

  49. The Shareware Message

  51. After you register, Kagi Shareware automatically sends you an e-mail reply titled ﾒThanks for your
  52. registrationﾓ. Once you receive this e-mail, you may check the "I have registered" checkbox in the preferences
  53. dialog box.  You should save this message as your receipt.  If you checked the ﾒPostcard Receiptﾓ box in the
  54. Register program, Kagi will send you a postcard with this information. Again, if you do not have an e-mail
  55. address, you must request a ﾒPostcard Receiptﾒ since otherwise you will not receive any reply.

  57. It can take Kagi Shareware up to a week to process a registration from the date they receive it (please make
  58. sure to factor in the delivery time if you use snail-mail). If you do not receive the ﾒThanks for your
  59. registrationﾓ e-mail message, contact Kagi Shareware at <shareware@kagi.com> or the postal address given on the
  60. registration form to ask about the status of your registration. Keep in mind that some registrations can get
  61. lost in the mail on the way to Kagi Shareware. Also, sometimes the e-mail reply gets lost as well (America
  62. Online is particularly unreliable when it comes to receiving e-mail from the internet).

  64. Once you have registered, you are considered registered for all future shareware versions of SimpleTime, so you
  65. do not need to reregister or pay any additional fees when you upgrade to a new version. We do not maintain a
  66. mailing or e-mailing list to distribute upgrades or announce new versions. However, you can always download the
  67. latest versions from the online services, internet archives, or my web site <http://www.idir.net/~catara>.

  70. Common Mistakes

  72. ･    If you do not provide an e-mail address, you must give a snail-mail address and check the ﾒPostcard
  73. Receiptﾓ box (this automatically adds $1 to the charge). If you do not, you will not receive any confirmation
  74. from Kagi. You have been warned (three times in this file alone, as well as with alerts in the ﾒRegisterﾓ
  75. application).

  77. ･    You must send the the registration form to Kagi Shareware and not to the shareware author. Kagi's e-mail
  78. and snail-mail addresses are given on the registration form itself, under the words ﾒSend this form to:ﾓ. In
  79. particular, do not send the form to the author's snail-mail addresses. (There is a reason why I do not include
  80. these snail-mail addresses in the SimpleTime documentation, and it is not to force you to search through my
  81. older versions and other shareware programs...)

  83. ･    Make sure you type your e-mail address correctly. If your e-mail address is wrong, you will not receive
  84. Kagi's confirmation message.

  86. ･    Make sure you are registering the right program. Some people mistakenly register MiniCalendar when they
  87. intend to register SimpleTime. The program you are registering is given on the ﾒProgram:ﾓ line of the resulting
  88. registration form, so you should double check that this line indicates the correct program.

  90. ･    Do not e-mail Kagi the ﾒRegisterﾓ application or send a screen shot of the ﾒRegisterﾓ window. You use the
  91. ﾒRegisterﾓ application to create a registration form (which consists of some text and possibly bar codes if you
  92. are using the printed version), and you then send that form to Kagi Shareware.

  94. ･    Do not type the shareware fee into the ﾒSingle Userﾓ box. This box is for the number of copies you want to
  95. register, and in most cases you should just type ﾒ1ﾓ. The ﾒRegisterﾓ application automatically computes the
  96. total cost for you. Also, do not try to put an ﾒxﾓ in the ﾒSingle Userﾓ box; it only takes numbers.

  98. ･    Do not check the ﾒSiteﾓ or ﾒWorld-Wideﾓ boxes if you only want to register a single copy. These boxes are
  99. for companies or organizations that want a license to use the shareware on all their machines. If you mistakenly
  100. check one of these boxes, you will be charged significantly more than for a single copy.

  102. ･    Do not give a FAX number as the only means of contacting you. We do not reply by FAX, so we need either an
  103. e-mail or snail-mail address. In particular, if you have a FAX number but no e-mail address, you still need to
  104. check the ﾒPostcard Receiptﾓ box.

  106. ･    The ﾒRegisterﾓ program is not an order form. All of the programs listed there are shareware, and it is
  107. assumed that you already have a copy of the programs you register. Neither Kagi Shareware nor the shareware
  108. authors will send you copies of these programs. You can download these programs yourself from any of the online
  109. services or internet Mac shareware archives. You can also get them from my web site
